INTERVIEW: Mr. Brightside (Manila Killa's Madeon Coachella Edit) - Madeon & Yelle vs. The Killers

It's only been less than three weeks ago when Manila Killa released his latest single, The Kick. But there's no stopping this soaring DJ.

This just in, Manila Killa has released a new banging track, doing his take on a Mr. Brightside edit, originally by the famous Killers. All of you best be keeping your eyes peeled for this guy, reppin' his hometown in Manila, all the way from DC!

Also, to keep things more exciting, I was able to score an interview with the mastermind himself.

MMB: Alright, Manila Killa. So, let me start off with, why Mr. Brightside?

MK: I was really inspired by what Madeon did in his Coachella set. He paired it with his Que Veux Tu remix that he did for Yelle, and as soon as I heard the vocals of Mr. Brightside over it, I was blown away. Had to re-create the feeling he gave me when he played that track.

MMB: Oooh, that's great. So, Madeon aside, who else would you say your influences are to your music?

MK: I've been influenced by a bunch of different dudes. In the beginning it was more MSTRKRFT and Boys Noize kinda guys, now it's moved to the more mainstream cats like R3hab, Laidback Luke, and Alesso. But I've also been intrigued by Brodinski's style. Basically, I'm influenced by almost all parts of EDM. Even Major Lazer and guys like 12th Planet I've pulled inspiration from.

MMB: It really shows how music has evolved, huh? How do you think EDM (Electronic Dance Music) has evolved over the years then?

MK: It definitely has. I think EDM has evolved into something EVERYONE can relate to, one way or another. Over the years, EDM has become more 'mainstream' (obviously) but it hasn't lost its roots. People are still pushing for new innovative sounds. Look at Dillon Francis for example - he took Moombahton (a fairly new, genre and twisted it into a signature, dubstep-ish sounding genre.) I feel like EDM has evolved in the sense that we're hearing more 'pleasing' sounds, stuff people who don't really know the scene can shake their bodies to. For example, Calling by Ingrosso and Alesso features the singer of One Republic, and created a sensation all over the world, from here in Virginia to back home in Manila, Philippines.

MMB: It only goes to show that EDM just gets better and better! So, as I conclude, any new projects you'll be working on soon?

MK: Definitely has. I'm working on some original and remix production with my good friend Nammo, who opened for the likes of Dada Life and Avicii in Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta, and I'm definitely excited for that. I've also began collaborating with the guys at Beacon Records, and they've helped guide me with such releases as The Kick. I'm also in contact and may be collaborating with Miami native Andy Ascencio! And as for solo work, I'll definitely have a lot in store for the future. I'm also narrowing in on original production and remixes as well, but I'll still do the occasional bootleg!

MMB: That's sick! One last thing, anything you wanna say to your fans here back home?

MK: I love and miss you guys! Will definitely be back to play for all of you soon enough! All of you - and I mean ALL. Enjoy your sisig while you can. I've constantly had cravings for my favorite dish over here in the states!
